This should explain why the island is called Green Island! The ground is very slippery!
Dunguaire castle is in the background.

The ruinous but fascinating arch on this outcrop, known with the name of Green Island, is all that remains of the Castle of Doon, owned by Flan Killikelly and demolished when Dunguaire Castle was built.

Castle of Doon is thought to be associated with the Fort of King of Guaire Aidne mac Colmáin, king of Connacht.
