This tower house is just beyond the automatic gate of a huge private property. On the gatepost there is a sign with a mobile phone number to call and ask for permission. It was built in the 15th century by the Fitzgeralds of Burnchurch, and it's one of the several Irish tower houses with the narrower sides of the building extending up one floor, creating a defensive shelter during battles. There are four storeys inside the castles with plenty of narrow rooms. The castle had a bawn and a 13.5 metres tall tower at one of the corners. Today the bawn is gone and the castle and the tower are 20 metres apart. The castle is closed by a locked gate, anyway, and can only be visited from the outside.
