This is an early oratory at Gougane Barra. It's a square enclosure with 2 vaulted cells in each side. On the four walls there are also 13 carved panels for the stations of the cross. The panels bear Irish inscriptions. In the centre of the enclosure is a wooden cross that remembers that this was the site of the St. Finbarr's Cell in the 6th century.
A plaque at the entrance of the site tells that St. Finbarr lived here as a hermit, with the surrounding mountains as his cloister and the lake as the mirror of God's grandeur.
