The burial chamber of this amazing monument.

We visited this wonderful place for the first time on May 3rd, 1998. It took 12 years for us to come back here, what a shame!

The Browne's Hill portal tomb stands proudly in the middle of a field, in a fenced area accessible along a 450 metres long footpath. It is said to have the heaviest capstone in all Europe, weighing about 150 tons. The structure, especially for the capstone, looks very similar to the Ballynoe portal tomb, though the Browne's Hill portal tomb is much bigger.
The whole monument is 5.50 metres wide and 5 metres long. The capstone points upwards to a height of 3.90 metres. The entrance faces perfectly east and is closed by a gate stone. On its sides there are two portal stones.
When we arrived we were alone, but it didn't last. This dolmen is a must-see place for many tourists, so after less than ten minutes a bus released a group of at least 15 German tourists, and when they went away more people came. Taking photos with nobody in the way is quite impossible!
