This wonderful stone circle is on the east side of the N81 and signposted. A timber stile gives access to the field where the circle is.
The stone circle has 16 upright stones, 3 of them are very small, but it seems that originally it could have had 29 stones, over a diameter of about 20 metres. A large stone stands outside the circle, about 42 metres to the northeast (50°), and two other outliers stand to the northwest (340°) at 2 metres and 5 metres respectively.
The heights of the stones in the circle range from 68 centimetres to 1.70 metres.
Some of them have faint signs of cupmarks or grooves.
The circle is also known with the name of Piper's Stone, as other circles in Ireland.
According to the local lore, a group of people were dancing at the sound of a pipe on a Sabbath. God was so displeased that he turned them all to stones. The stones in the circle would be the dancers, the outlying stone would be the piper.
We were blessed with a wonderful clear sky during our visit, though it got cloudy right before we went away.
