There's a lintelled doorway at the ground level of the east side.

The Butler family, of Norman origins, owned several castles in Ireland. This tower house is one of them.
It's situated south of the town of Gowran, not far from the Collegiate Church.
The tower house measures 9 metres by 8 metres, it's three-storey high and is now part of a farm shed and adjacent buildings. All the passages at the ground level have been sealed off, as well as all the windows in the east (110°) wall. The north (20°) side is one storey taller than the rest of the tower house.
The windows on the third floor are the most elegant, being them mullioned and two-light ogee windows. The one in the north wall has four lights. Other windows are narrower or arrow loops.
The lintelled doorway was in the east wall. There are the remnants of machicolations at the roof level on the east and south sides.
