Along the R352 that leaves Tuamgraney towards southwest there is this holy well dedicated to St. Coelan.
A stone house was built on the well in September 1803 by order of John and Anthony Brady and sons. A plaque above the entrance to the well reads that. The entrance faces the road towards northwest (300°).
St. Coelan lived between 690 and 750. He's associated with Inis Cealtra where he probably lived. He wrote "A life of St. Brigid of Kildare" in Latin in 625.
His feast day is July 29th and until a few years ago pilgrims used to visit the well on this day.
Two things ruined our visit to this well. The heavy rain and the heap of rubble that had been stacked up against the back of the well house. I can't understand how people can be that rude!
