This motte at a crossroads about 1 km east of the village of Rathvilly was built by the Normans in the 12th century. According to a legend, it was built above the site that once was the residence of King Crimhthann (443-483).
The access to the motte is via a stile in a wall on the northeast side (55°). The motte is about 7 metres tall.
