To the east of the Glendalough Upper Lake is a rather circular stone enclosure, known as the Caher. Its use and date of construction are unknown.
Its inner diameter is about 15 metres. The walls, in dry stone, are 2.80 metres thick, so the external diameter is slightly in excess of 20 metres. It has a gap as an entrance in the southeast (120°) section of the wall. In the centre of the enclosure there's a square stone block with a rectangular hole. This was likely a stone base for a cross.
