The Noughaval Market Stone is a stone pillar with an octagonal plan dated 1725 and placed on a stone base right at the entrance of the Noughaval old church, now in ruins. The market stone was used as a measuring tool during the trade or the sale of clothes. It's 1.53 metres tall, stands on a square base about 60 centimetres tall, and every turn of fabric around the pillar was equal to 72 inches (almost 183 cm) of length.
UPDATE: June 7th, 2010 - We returned to this pillar just to take some new photographs and to check the coordinates.
UPDATE: June 12th, 2019 - A new visit to this nice market stone at Noughaval. There was a very good light during this visit and I was able to take some more photos.
The first two photos in this page are from the visit in 2003, the remaining five photos are from the visit in 2019.
