Inside the Clare Heritage Centre in Corofin is a museum that tells the history of Ireland, but mainly the history of county Clare and the Famine years. What sad events hit the country in the past, and how miserably the people lived. A well worth visit! Among many other items there's the most interesting thing of all, a Tau Cross. It was originally located on Roughan Hill, at about 5.5 kilometres northwest from here, nearby Killinaboy church and is one of the four only Tau Crosses in Ireland. It is believed that this cross used to mark the ecclesiastic boundary of Killinaboy church in the 12th century. It stands on a stone base and it's 77 centimetres tall, while its arms span at about 65 centimetres. The upper side of its arms is decorated with two carved heads.
