This amazing and beautiful cross pillar stands along the footpath on the north side of the Castlewellan Lake.
It seems it is unknown to most locals, and I think lots of people walk by it everyday without even noticing it.
The pillar is 1.76 metres tall, has a maximum width of 52 centimetres and a maximum depth of 41 centimetres.
On the northwest (335°) side it has an incised cross outlined by four "L-shaped" incisions.
Above the outlined cross the date 1615 has been incised.
Below the cross the letters SOC and the date 1675 can be read.
The other sides of the pillar are plain and have bump on the surfaces.
I wasn't able to find any more info about this pillar.
