This octagonal building, locally known as The Tower or Sham Castle, is in the centre of the roundabout next to the N24. It is located at the highest point of the village of Piltown. It's the unfinished monument in memory to the son of John Ponsonby, earl of Bessborough, who was believed dead during the Napoleonic wars. The man however survived and returned home safely. Only two stories were completed. The upper section of the tower is currently used as a water reservoir.
