The ffrench family wanted this church to be built and in 1759 Robert ffrench presented a memorial signed by most of Monivea protestant inhabitants with the request for a site of prayer. The construction began in January 1762 and on October 28th, 1769, the church was consecrated by the Archbishop of Tuam.
Robert ffrench purchased some of the pews for his own family and for the his servants and tenants.
The church remained in use until 1924. In 1955 the south end of the roof collapsed. This portion of the building was taken down, the stained glass windows were put into storage, some of them were re-used in the Dugort church in Achill. The bell was given to Creggagh parish in Belfast with much disappointment of the people of Monivea who had always heard it toll on New Year's Day.
The only section visible today is the belfry.
