This small church is well tucked away behind a low wall and a line of tall trees on the R324, 2.5 kilometres southwest from Kiltimagh.
I had seen a photo of this place about 12 or 13 years ago, but it took a long time to find where it was. Asking the locals didn't help in the past.
It's a small chapel surrounded by a private graveyard for the Ormsby family.
The small chapel, which measures about 9.50 metres of length and 6.50 metres of width, is aligned to the northeast (65°) and has three pointed arch windows in the southeast wall. The access is through a small attached building on the southwest end. Opposite the doorway is a wonderful commemorative slab with a lengthy inscription which says that the plaque was erected by Elizabeth Kelly in memory of his beloved husband Robert Ormsby who died on December 28th, 1727, aged 61. Above the inscription there are the carvings of the two coats of arms of the family and the Latin words "Turris Fortis Mihi Deus", meaning "God is my strong tower".
According to the slab, Robert Ormsby is interred beneath it.
Another attached small building is on the northwest side of the church and now contains only remnants of window frames.
All the chest tombs around the church are for members of the Ormsby family and are similarly decorated. One of them has a disturbing carving on the cover, a raised arm holding a severed leg!
