Approaching the stone from the east.

This is one of the two standing stones at Ardristan, on the N81, south of Tullow.
We had been trying to visit them for years, but the heavy traffic on that road made us feel unsafe to stop on the side and start looking for them.
This time it was different, very few cars on the road and, essential, the gate to the field was open. We looked around and saw nobody, so in we went to see the eastern stone of the pair. It seems that the other one is across the N81, behind a barn, but it was a Sunday and we didn't want to disturb anyone.

The standing stone is about 50 metres east from the field gate.
Like most of the standing stones in county Carlow, it has grooves on its upper part that make it look like a tulip. A similar stone can be seen at Ballyellin and Tomdarrach.
The stone is 2.31 metres tall, and 58 centimetres wide and thick.
