This massive granite stone, on the highest point of the Cathedral Hill, covers the burial of St. Patrick.
The stone was placed on the present site in early 1900's to protect the saint's grave from the many people and pilgrims who would take scoops of earth from the burial place.
The boulder is 2.08 metres long and 1.80 metres wide. On it top surface a ringed cross with enlarged terminals has been incised, aligned on the northeast-southwest (60°-240°) axis, along with the name "patrick" written in semi-uncial typeface.
