The Layd parish was established in 1306 and the church was built in that time. It served as parish church until 1790, when a new church was built in Cushendall.
In its later years it had a thatched roof. The tower at the west end is quite unusual and it's thought it served as an accomodation for the priests.
Around the church is an old graveyard and the field goes gently down to the cliffs. The view from here is breathtaking!
At 40 metres south from the church there's the Layd cross.
