At the end of a narrow cul-de-sac, there's a passage in a wall and after a 200 metres walk you reach the remains of the castle on the north side of the river Boyne. This once was the home of the D'Arcy family, and although it's in the 13th century style, it was built in 15th century.
It was attacked by the army of Cromwell in 1649 and it was involved in the battle of Boyne in 1690 but reported minor damages.
The building was eventually destroyed by a fire in 1799.
Further down to the river there are the ruins of a church.
The river Boyne that flows quietly right below gives this place a magic atmosphere!
