The walls are thick!

This tower house is about 1 km from the village of Dunmore.
The first structure of a castle was built here in 1225 by the De Bermingham family, but the Irish burned it down in 1249, 1284 and 1315.
The present castle was built in 1325 and had only the ground floor, soon after it was raised by one floor and later on it was enriched with gables, fireplaces and chimneys. The castle was inhabited until the end of the 1800's.
Its strucure is very similar to the Athenry castle, also built by the De Bermingham.
The inside is completely destroyed but it's still very fascinating. The southeast (120°) wall is completely adorned with windows.
The tower house has a plan of 12 metres by 17 metres and stands on a low mound.
During my visit at this castle a young raven fell from its nest and landed before my left foot. Its companions flew in circle over my head to make sure I didn't touch or harm it.
