This building is known as The Mint, though it's unlikely that it was actually used as a mint. Carlingford was granted to mint coins only in 1467. This fortified three-storey house belonged to a wealthy merchant family in the centre of town. The most interesting feature are the five highly decorated limestone windows. The patterns and motifs are an example of the influence that the Celtic Renaissance had on art during the 16th century.
We visited this place for the first time on May 9th, 2000.
UPDATE: May 26th, 2019 - We stopped in Carlingford for the night and this was the chance to take a few more photos of this building.
The first six photos in this page are from the visit in 2011, the remaining eight photos are from the visit in 2019.
