Clonmel is one of the many Walled Towns of Ireland and its walls date to the 14th and 15th centuries.
The first 10-year murage charter was granted in 1298, but others followed until the 15th century, to make the town safer against the many attacks from the Irish.
A few sections of the medieval walls can be seen in town.
What I featured in this page are two sections of the town walls that now mark the boundary of a large parking lot in Mary Street, behind a shopping centre.
The first L-shaped section is in the southwest corner of the parking lot, the other section, linear, runs along the north side of the lot.
