In the cemetery south of Courtown is a plain granite cross. A plaque next to it says that it marks the place where an early church founded by St. Aidan once stood.
St. Aidan was the first Bishop of Ferns and it is said he built that church before leaving to Clonmore in 598.
The cross was accidentally felled in 1800, and it was re-erected in 1990.
It is 1.22 metres tall, 72 centimetres wide at the arms, 30 centimetres wide at the shaft and 14 centimetres thick.
It is aligned east-west (100°-280°).
