Dromana Gate is a Hindu-Gothic style gate lodge at the entrance of what once was the Dromana Estate, just crossed the bridge over Finisk river.
It was originally built of wood and papier mache by the tenants of Dromana Estate to greet Henry Villiers-Stuart (the owner of the estate) and his wife, Theresia Pauline Ott of Vienna, on returning from their honeymoon to Brighton in 1826. The couple were so delighted with the gate that they had it reconstructed in stone some years later.
This folly construction is the only one of its kind in all Ireland and comprises a central gateway with two porters' lodges, one each side. What gives the structure an exotic look are the central dome and the minaret-like white poles at each corner.
This weird construction was restored by the Irish Georgian Society in 1967, and again in 1990 by Waterford County Council.
