Gleann Cholm Cille, also known as Glencolmcille, is famous for its "turas", the journey, the path that people follow from one station to the other one during their pilgrimage done between June 9th and August 15th. The round of the stations is about 3 km long. The stations are both in the village and outside the village.
The Cross Pillar of the 13th station is probably the most famous of all the stations of the Turas, since it is located in the centre of the village, impossible to miss. But don't let it deceive you. The one you see along the main street in the village is a replica of the original one, which has been preserved in the Gleann Cholm Cille Folk Village at least since 1997.
It is 1.70 metres tall, 52 centimetres wide and 5 centimetres thick. It has a Latin cross inscribed inside a circle. The Latin cross is at the centre of two carved lines, as a crosshair, with the vertical line going down to the base. Along its path to the base it goes through two circles with a hollow in their centre. The other of the pillar side is plain.
