Looking at the castle from the north-northwest.

The ruins of this castle stand on a rocky outcrop next to a private property.
Because nobody was home and the dog was on duty, I chose not to walk in, I took all the photos from outside the property.

The name Cullen Castle comes from the Irish Caislean a Chuilinn that means Castle of the Holly.
Cullencastle is also the name of the townland where the outcrop is, owned in 1654 by James Bryver.
Though there is little infornatiom about who built it and when, it is known that is was one of the many castles that De La Poers had in the area.
