This old little church has a fantastic Romanesque doorway. It seems that only two portals of this kind still survive in Ireland, the other one being at Clonfert.
The doorway is all that remains of the original building built around 1100, even if the first church was founded here by St. Lachtain in 622.
The present church, dedicated to St. Lachtain, has been built in 1731. The inscription over the innermost arch commemorates the builder O'Cenucain and the patron O'Kerwick who commissioned the construction.
During our visit the church was under restoration and the access was forbidden. The photos I took was shot through the grids of the metal fence.
In the public garden across the street from the church there's a cross base. It's nothing more than a carved stone upon three stone steps.
