Ross Cross is hidden among the brambles and branches of a small enclosure on the top of a low hill in a private land. The man who was attending his herd came towards me and told me the interesting story of this cross. In 1690 a young girl, 17, who lived in the nearby Ross Castle and a young man, 18, who lived in a large mansion on the hill on the other side of the glen were in love against their families' will. One day the young boy fell from his horse and died. The young girl hanged herself in desperation. They were both buried here, on this hill, because from here they both could see their respective homes. The cross is broken in more pieces and lies on the ground among brambles and other pieces of stone.
