Of the four original town gates of Kilmallock, only this one survives today and it's on Emmet Street.
It's a three-storey tower, with a large archway aligned north-northeast to south-southwest (20°-200°), 5 metres wide and 2.50 metres long.
The east-southeast side is taller and has four slit windows, suggesting that this may contain a staircase.
Slightly offset above the archway on the north-northeast side there's a large pointed window in the same style as the ones in King John's Castle, so it's possible that this window as well was added in the 18th century.
Some irregularly shaped stones protrude from the west-northwest wall and they are probably witnesses of the ancient town wall around the town.
On each side of the tower, right above the archway, there's a lancet window. On the day of the visit the lancet window on the south-southwest side had an orange ball stuck right in the middle.
