This Franciscan Friary was founded by Maolrouny O'Carroll and his wife Bibiana in 1477. The friary was destroyed some decades later during a revolt of the friars.
Only the east gable, the north wall and the central bell tower remain. Fragments of the cloister, parts of windows and small stone crosses have been mounted into the north wall of the ruin above the entrance which has a crenellated parapet.
The bell tower is quite intact and has a crenellated top.
The east gable had a nice east window, but it's been blocked by a modern house built against the gable.
The entrance in the north wall now leads to the modern Catholic church about 150 metres further south. Another small stone cross of the destroyed friary has been mounted in the low bridge across the Moneen river which flows between the old ruins and the modern church.
