We were driving in the area and we decided to reach the Baltray Standing Stones, two giants in a private field where the grass was very high and with a stunning view over the sea and the golf course to the east.
The two stones are large flat slabs and are 100 metres northeast (45°) from the field gate.
The first stone is 3.05 metres tall, 1.25 metres wide and 33 centimetres thick, with its axis aligned southeast-northwest (135°-315°).
The second stone in 2.07 metres tall, 1.05 metres wide and 38 centimetres thick, aligned south-southeast to north-northwest (160°-340°).
The distance between them is about 9 metres along an axis north-northeast to south-southwest (20°-200°).
It seems that the larger of the two stones marks both the winter solstice sunrise and the summer solstice sunset.
The ambience is dramatically ruined by a big square concrete water tank!
