What a day!
When we started our day at the Cavan Park the weather was rather good and dry, but as soon as we began the tour in the park it started raining very heavily and we had to wait nearly 3 hours in the car for the rain to ease off.
Tullygobbin Wedge Tomb was the first tomb we visited soon after the rain stopped.
The structure is badly damaged and only the southeast (135°) side is rather intact. Two broken capstones cover the burial chamber on the northeast side.
The tomb is about 8.90 metres long, and about 2.05 metres wide on the southwest end, where the two tall entrance orthostats are, about 1 metre tall each.
The wedge tomb and the nearby cairn stand on a low mound cleared of all the thick vegetation there was here until a few years ago. From some photos I had seen, these stones were lost in the woods, now the views are clear all around them. Though this current condition makes the context easier to understand, I have to admit it detracts a lot from the ambience.
