Another unplanned visit after the one at Glenogra Church nearby. We were adviced to visit this place by a local in Bruff.
This building is an irregularly shaped rectangular bawn castle with the remains of a doorway the south (190°) wall.
This is where we walked into the ruins from.
The interiors are just an overgrown field, and part of the walls are covered with ivy, or hidden by mature vegetation, like tall trees.
In the southeast corner there are traces of a roofless building.
The tallest part of the building is a three-storey tower in the northeast corner, with several rectangular windows.
Another gateway must have been in the east wall, where a section of the wall projects outwards and forms sort of an antechamber.
Some sources say that this castle was built in the 13th century by either the FitzHarris or the De Lacys. Later on the castle was in possession of the Earl of Desmond.
