We learned about this castle because we had stopped in Bruff for the night.
It's about 1.5 km southeast from the town.
It consists of a tower house within bawn walls. Within the same enclosure are some other buildings.
It seems it was built by the de Lacys.
The castle is in total ruins, but some interesting details can still be seen, like the two bartizans at the northeast and southwest corners of the tower, and the many windows, some of them mullioned.
At the south and west range of the complex there are the remains of lower buildings with tall chimneys.
A breach into the south wall of the tower leads to what remains of a spiral staircase which rises up to the first floor. The inner walls of the tower house are black, like they are still carrying the traces of a fire. It is likely that the castle was burned down.
