In the graveyard of St. Columba's church there's a tall round tower. It's in the southwest corner of the churchyard and it's integrated in the south border wall.
The roof is missing, but the windows at the top are still present.
The tower is first mentioned in 1076 when the records reported that Murchadh, former High King of Ireland, was murdered inside it. On the left-hand side jamb of its doorway there's a carved head, now worn. The round tower stands at 22.5 metres in height and has a diameter of 4.7 metres at the base. The doorway opens at 2.10 metres from the ground and faces north.
We visited this round tower for the first time on June 15th, 2001.
