We were looking for Abbey Assaroe and we found this nice holy well on the sea shore, in a quiet and relaxing setting. The place is also known as Tobar na Baghaille, meaning the "Well of the Crozier". This well is associated with St. Patrick and St. Colmcille. The latter helped his cousin St. Barron found Kilbarron Church, about 3.2 km northwest from here. People come here on pilgrimage on August 15th.
The access is from a 120 metres long grassy path towards the sea, where there is a rather big stone shrine with the statue of the saint looking towards the sea to the south-southwest (200°). A metal fence encloses the space before the shrine. Three rocky leachta with white crosses on their top guard the shrine. Next and within the metal fence there are two ancient polygonal stone fonts. The usual rag-tree completes the set.
The well was dry on the day of our visit.
This holy well isn't marked on the OS Map.
