This nice and simple stone cross is on the side of a country road just outside Ballymore Eustace. It's protected by a wooden fence that has a strong smell of tar. A maple tree casts its shadow on the cross.
The cross is 1.38 metres tall, the shaft is 33 centimetres wide, the arms are 80 centimetres wide and it's 22 centimetres thick. It leans to the west by 7°.
It may look very old, but a local woman told me that it should have been erected in the nearby graveyard. During the transportation it fell over the horse-drawn cart and since nobody wanted to, or could, lift it up again on the cart, it was left and erected there. It should be not more than 250 years old.
The protective fence around it is a good idea, unfortunately it's too small and too close to the cross and taking photos isn't that easy.
