This wonderful market cross is the only one in Ireland to be in its original place. It stands on a stepped plinth in the centre of the small market square at the intersection between Bridge Street and Burkes Lane. It's 66 centimetres high, 32 centimetres wide and 28 centimetres thick. The cross dates from the 15th century. The plinth is 2.50 metres tall, for a total height of 3.16 metres. It's gently decorated on all of its sides. On the southeast (210°) face there's a crucifixion scene. On the northeast (30°) face there's a worn out carving of the Virgin and Child. The other two sides have carving of foliage motifs.
We came here for the first time on May 13th, 2000.
