It took me some years and several attempts before I was able to find this cross slab.
The great majority of locals seems to be unaware of this beauty, and if it wasn't for the help of a friendly local man I would have never found it. It's behind some private gardens and the access is through a private property, so getting the permission is essential.
There's a small shrine with the statue of Our Lady at the edge of a circular enclosure. A white marble plaque at the base of the shrine reads "St. Brigid Pray For Us - Erected by the McHugh Family".
Leaning against this shrine is this wonderful cross slab.
The slab measures 88 centimetres of height, it's 29 centimetres wide and 14 centimetres thick.
On its east (90°) face it has an amazing incision of a cross, with a swastika incised in its head and diagonal crosses in the arms and along the shaft. Three concentric circles, as to mimic a boss, are incised at the intersection of the arms. Around the head there's a rounded line with curling ends.
The carved cross is 44.5 centimetres high and 17 centimetres wide at the arms.
I was there right on time, before the tall and dense rose bush casted a dark shadow on the cross slab and the shrine.
