This curious rocky figure is a limestone formation probably 80 to 90 millions years old.
It may resemble a lady in a Victorian dress overlooking the Antrim Coast and the sea. The rocky figure is locally known as The White Lady.
The colour of the stone reflects the nature of the area that is well known for its limestone sedimentation and it's of great importance to scientists.
Limestone formed in a warm and shallow sea and is made up of millions of shells from microscopic molluscs.
The body and the head of this figure are made of the same material, but the neck shows a different stone texture. That means that the three parts of the figure formed in three different ages, proving that millions of years ago the sea water was much higher than now.
This rocky formation stands proudly on the A2 about 8.5 kilometres southeast from Cushendall.
