It's a round structure made of stone blocks, with a not so vague phallic look, with a diameter of 1.25 metres at its lowest point and a height of 13 metres, placed on a square plinth which is 1 metre high.
Along with the Maiden Tower it was a beacon for the ships who was entering or leaving the River Boyne.
According to a local legend, a beautiful local girl was in love with a man who left to fight abroad. Before leaving he told her that if he was coming home alive his ship would hoist white sails, if he was returning back dead his ships would hoist black sails. So for many weeks she waited for him from the top of the Maiden Tower until she saw a ship on the horizon with black sails. Destroyed with pain and grief she threw herself off the tower and died. The story goes that an obelisk was erected nearby in the shape of the finger where she hoped to see a wedding ring.
