These are the remains of a huge wedge tomb. Unfortunately none of the capstones remain. The tomb is in poor state with all the stones of the burial chamber in a messy condition. All around are massive stones that formed the kerb, five on each side, though both the ones at the west (260°) end have fallen. The whole monument is about 5.90 metres wide and 7.50 metres long. The rear end of the tomb looks east (90°). Here there's a confused pile of stones. They might have been part of the cairn that once covered the tomb, but some speculated that they were part of a nearby stone circle that was dismantled to clear the field. The tallest stone of the kerb is 1.50 metres in height. Weirdly enough, though this is a very huge and impossible to miss megalithic monument, it's not marked on the OS map that I have (2nd edition).
We came here twice in the past, on December 7th, 1995 and May 10th, 2002.
