Though mostly destroyed, this high cross is still wonderful. It stands in an old graveyard where a monastery was founded in the 6th century by St. Comgal. The cross was carved in red sandstone.
Only the shaft remains, set into a stone base. The two main sides are wonderfully decorated with scenes from the Bible, the other two sides have interlaced and geometric patterns and bosses.
The cross shaft is 1.98 metres tall, it stands on a base that is 85 centimetres high, for a total height of 2.83 metres. The shaft is 50 centimetres wide and 34 centimetres thick. It is aligned east-west (100°-280°).
According to some sources, the cross went through different experiences. It was knocked down in the 18th century, then it was used as a gate post, before being re-erected in the present position.
The river Bann flows right below the graveyard, which is populated by tall yew trees.
