The church in ruins and the round tower in Maghera date probably from the 13th century. The tower is a stump now. The upper part was knocked down by a heavy storm in 1710, and it is recorded that some 30 years later it was still laying on the ground, unbroken, like a huge gun. Now the stump is only 6 metres tall. On the northeast side (75°) there's a large hole at 1.45 metres from the ground, 2 metres wide and over 3 metres high. The tower has diameter of 5.2 metres. Behind the ruins of the church there's an old graveyard and some lovely small cross slabs are visible among the ancient graves.
