What a day! When we started our day at the Cavan Park the weather was rather good and dry, but as soon as we began the tour in the park it started raining very heavily and we had to wait nearly 3 hours in the car for the rain to ease off.
Tullygobbin Cairn is about 15 southwest (200°) from the wedge tomb with the same name. It's just a low mound of small stones with a kerb of leaning orthostats that make it look like a small stone circle. The inner diameter of the cairn is 2.70 metres.
The cairn and the nearby wedge tomb stand on a low mound cleared of all the thick vegetation there was here until a few years ago. From some photos I had seen, these stones were lost in the woods, now the views are clear all around them. Though this current condition makes the context easier to understand, I have to admit it detracts a lot from the ambience.
