This fortified church was built by the Knights Hospitallers in the early 14th century on a plot of land that once belonged to their rivals the Knights Templars, from whom the place takes its name, who had the land granted by king Henry II in 1172.
We found this church by pure chance on our way back from Slade castle.
The most fascinating feature of this ruined church is the crenellated tower. The inner walls still retain most of the original plaster. There's a portion of a staircase that leads to the first floor of the tower.
