South of the small village of Knocklong, on a low hill, there are the poor ruins of this castle that once was the seat of the O'Hurleys and was probably built in the middle of the 14th century but was remodeled in the 17th century. It's a rather square tower house, about 9 metres by 8 metres in plan, with a gabled roof.
The castle is totally ruined and only the southwest (210°) wall stands to its full height. In this wall was the main entrance as witnessed by the stones that form the door jambs. The round arch opening in the opposite wall might have been a window on the first floor.
Another fine item in the masonry is the double light ogee window high in the northwest wall.
Next to the castle there should be a similarly old church but we didn't see it, unless the stones in the nearby graveyard are part of the building.
