The ruins of the Small Church seen from the southwest. Only the east (90°) wall stands at its full height.

A monastic site was founded at Mungret in mid-6th century by St. Nessan. The monastic community topped around 1,500 monks at the monastic site, operating in 6 different churches.

It seems that this church has no dedication to any saint, and it is just referred to as the Small Church.

It is a single cell church, measuring just 8.60 metres of length and 4.10 metres of width.
The entrance is in the west wall, a narrow and splayed window is in the east (85°) wall.
There are two narrow and splayed windows in the south wall too.
The roof was very steep.
