This holy well is dedicated to St. Colman Mac Duach, like the sister well in county Galway. Colman Mac Duagh lived in the 7th century and he's best remembered for founding the monastery which bears his name.
Four steps go down to a small well which was dry on the day of our visit. A Marian grotto was erected next to the well in 1954. The well is in the area of a cillín, the burial ground for unbaptized babies. There was also an old church here, but nothing remains of it today. According to some old stories, the deceased babies were brought here to be buried at night. The cillín was used till 1900. A plaque on the wall of the plot next to the well remembers those babies.
