This stone fort sits on a plateau and has a squarish plan.
Its inner size, side to side, is about 35 metres, the walls are about 1 metre high and at the entrance, which is at the east (80°) end, they are 4 metres thick. The entrance is 1.60 metres wide.
The interior is regular and mostly plain.
The excavations in 1938 revealed the foundations of a number of houses built over a wide span of time. The earlier had a round plan, the later had a rectangular plan with thick wall and hearths.
Several items belonged to the community who lived here were found, including silver objects dating to the 10th century, iron pins, knives, querns, bone combs and saws. Bronze pins from the 7th century belonged to high status people of the community.
About 80 metres northwest is Carraig Aile 1.
